Workplace tips:

Everyone likes to be liked. We are social creatures and it's innate for us to mix with others, feel great in doing so and build great relationships with those we work, socialise and live with.

This is not to be confused with putting the opinions of our coworkers before the value of our contributions in the workplace or at the detriment to ourselves, but if you had to choose between a harmonious workplace and a non-harmonious - we all know which we would prefer.

With all the personality types out there it's near impossible to be well-liked by everyone but here's some handy tips to make a step in the right direction!

  1. Use people's names. People love to hear their own name avoid using 'her/him' it shows a massive lack of interest or respect towards that person. Using their name as part of an introduction to any request will go along way "Can we set up a meeting to look at this campaign" "Hey Jenny, how are you? When you get chance today can we set up a time to look at this campaign together?"

  2. Bin the pessimistic attitude. Pessimists bring the mood down, if you are the type of person to look for the positive instead of the negative in a situation you'll be far more pleasant to be around! Smile :) it goes a long way. Just having a smile on your face every time people see you has people associating positivity and a nice vibe with you!

  3. Build a favour bank - if it is take take take from you and you are the one always asking favours the weaker your bonds will become with people. Help others out, we are evolutionary programmed to feel better about the people who help us as well as the people that we help out. If you go out of your way to help others you will never feel hesitant about asking for a favour of your own.

  4. If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together - Know the time and the place for competition amongst your team. Don't go out of your to throw someone under the bus or claim the credit for a group effort. Focus on the big wins, the winners come out on top in the end and a team around you can help you win!
