In the workplace, it shouldn’t be all about what your employer wants from YOU, you can be there to learn and grow too.

As somebody who did not know what they wanted to get into when it came to long-term career goals, my 20s very much taught me everything I needed to know throughout various work experiences, placements and jobs as to what I’d be best suited to doing with my work life moving forward!

Whilst this is still an evolving process for me even now, I think it’s so important when you are starting out in the big world of 'work' that you take a step back from each job / experience and take stock of what you are taking away from it.

Whilst it might not be the job of your dreams right now or perhaps you don’t see yourself there past three, five, ten years,

What is it you want to take away from the experience in that company or placement?

Why not block out some time in your week this week to update your LinkedIn profile and reflect on each segment of your digital CV.

What is it you’ve learnt from each bit of experience, what skills did you acquire? How have you applied those skills in different settings?

3 Quick Tips to Summarise Work Experience on Your CV

  1. Focus on impact, not just tasks.

Go beyond what you did—share what you achieved.

    Show how you added value.

  2. Start with action words.

Use strong verbs like led, created, improved, managed. Keep it clear and to the point.

  3. Connect to your goals.

Highlight transferable skills that align with the work you want to do next—even if the job wasn’t in your target field.

Remember, your work experience is more than just a list of jobs—make it reflect not just where you’ve been, but the value you can bring to your next opportunity.
